Thermal Behavior of a BIPV Combined with Water Storage: An Experimental Analysis

Buildings play an active role in the global energy consumption and are required to not only minimize their use, but also generate a sustainable manner. The integration of renewable energies building elements can improve overall performance, as they able replace common construction materials, while offering both electrical thermal energy. scope this paper is present first results experimental study Building-Integrated Photovoltaic system combined with water storage tank (BIPV-WS), extensively studied yet. Both layers separated by ventilated air cavity, behavior was analyzed experimentally real functioning conditions. performs storage, maintaining regular temperature about 20–30 °C during typical winter day Lisbon for period 11 h. Moreover, through ventilation heat provided solar panel naturally recovered indoors building, keeping high enough up water. During summer, BIPV-WS enabled beneficial nocturnal loss delaying diurnal space heating.
